2012 Pin Badge posterity for Honeywood Museum
Carshalton’s Honeywood Museum has been chosen to stand beside Tower
Bridge, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye after a poll to find
Londoners’ favourite local landmark.
Sutton residents were invited to vote for their favourite local landmark
to be featured in a celebratory set of 33 London 2012 ‘Landmark London’
pin badges to go on sale next year.
Dating from the mid 17th Century and overlooking Carshalton Ponds, the
house is home to the borough’s museum and heritage centre. Honeywood has
been owned by the borough since 1939 and is rich in period detail with
much of the interior recently restored to the 1903 colour scheme.
The competition was organised by the London 2012 Organising Committee in
partnership with London Councils and Sutton Council.
Cllr Graham Tope, Executive Member for Heritage said,
“Honeywood is a much loved local landmark and it is great news that
residents have chosen it to appear on a celebratory pin badge for the
2012 London Olympics.”
