1948 - 14th May

Carlos (Hank) Hankings sketching the Mayor at Sutton Depot. The bus, London General's B-43, was one of 300 requisitioned by the British Army in October 1914 for use in France and Belgium due to a shortage of motor vehicles at the outbreak of the first world war. This particular vehicle, which became affectionately known as The Old Bill Bus, was built in 1911, and returned from the war to run again on London's streets until it was retired in 1920. It was preserved, and was eventually presented to the Imperial War Museum on 5th May 1970 where it may still be seen today.
